Ginkgo biloba, a popular herbal supplement taken by millions of Americans who hope to improve their memory, doesn't appear to delay or prevent the onset of dementia in elderly adults, according to a study published Tuesday in a top medical journal.

The results of the trial, the largest and longest to date of the herbal compound, were published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
